Our friends north of the Red River have been making some fantastic music, hence the infusion of "Red Dirt" to our Texas Music. But Texas has the corner on the music festival market, it seems there is one nearly every weekend starting from March through October. Well, those Okies have decided to show us why Oklahoma is OK and put together a music festival of their own, showcasing the best the Red Dirt scene has to offer. This September, Jason Boland & the Stragglers and the Turnpike Troubadours have organized the three-day music festival, Medicine Stone.
From the press release:
Nestled on the banks of the majestic Illinois River termed “the Medicine Stone River” by the Osage Indians, the Diamondhead Resort in Tahlequah, Oklahoma will play host to the first annual music event aptly named Medicine Stone. The brain child of acclaimed Oklahoma artists Jason Boland & The Stragglers and the Turnpike Troubadours, Medicine Stone intends to serve as the premier outdoor music event in the four-state area. Music, food, camping, canoeing, rafting and floating, all in one of the most beautiful spots in America…Medicine Stone has you covered in a three-day Okie style event that is sure to make the list of primary attractions on the Illinois River. Kicking off September 12th through the 14th the nearly all Oklahoma music line-up includes Jason Boland & The Stragglers, the Turnpike Troubadours, Todd Snider, Stoney LaRue, Cody Canada & The Departed, GRAMMY nominated John Fullbright, the Red Dirt Rangers, Randy Crouch and Jason Eady. Packages vary from single to three-day packages with several camping options including on site hotel, bunk houses and camp sites on the river. Tickets go on sale July 1st and can be purchased at MedicineStoneOK.com.
The line-up for this event is ridiculous, so if you're up to the road trip it may be a fun weekend. You may also want to pay attention to our Twitter/FB/Contest page, there may be some ways for you to win tickets coming up closer to the event.
