One of my favorites, and a favorite of a lot of the Texas and Red Dirt guys is Jason Isbell. You may have heard of him (and this song) from when he was with the Drive By Truckers. He split off from them a few years ago and started the 400 Unit. Earlier this year he and his band recorded a live album (which comes out next Tuesday). And they will be on tour supporting it in December, the "Stop F-ng Around and Play ‘Outfit’" Tour. Funny story behind the name, that is one of Jason's most requested songs at his shows. He recalled at a recent show in Austin, that at one concert in particular there was a guy repeatedly requesting the song and at one point, nearly in tears, just yelled out "Stop F-ing Around and play Outfit!" And Jason did and, in honor of that guy and others sharing that same sentiment, named his tour that. So now I'll quit writing and let you watch video from the "Live From Alabama" CD recording of "Outfit". Find out more at JasonIsbell.com
Another guy I've heard a lot of buzz about is a little more local, out of South Texas. Chris King's day job is high school teacher and coach, but he's also is a talented songwriter. He'll have a new album, "1983" out sometime next year. Chris is currently previewing tracks off of it, this one features Jamie Wilson of the Trishas. Check out his website to find out more.
