The girlfriend and I actually made an effort (and an event) out of watching the VMAs last night. After going to the store and buying some snack food, along with some Shiner Bock to drink, we sat back and made an attempt to enjoy the next two and a half hours of the show.
As optimistic as we were that Chelsea Handler would be a good host, it seemed as though she held off on being her extremely outspoken self. The bits with the Jersey Shore cast were kinda funny, but it seemed to me that Chelsea's best bit of the night was making fun of Lady Gaga, with the ridiculous "house headdress" that she wore upon entering the stage.
Speaking of Lady Gaga... I don't get it. Any of it.
The entire night was focused on the Kanye/Taylor thing, which seems to just continue on without slowing down.
Taylor's performance was first, which I still feel the jury is out on. I don't know if I liked Taylor "departing" from what I feel her strong point is in her songwriting and taking a "jab" at Kanye with her song. If you guys were wondering if it was about Kanye, there's a part where she sings: "32 and still growing up now." Kanye was 32 years of age at last year's ceremony.
Kanye, without the bottle of Hennessey in his grasp, didn't address Taylor. Yet he did address all the people (which includes me) which felt his cognac-induced antics at last year's VMAs were rude and disrespectful. His song, "Runaway," said to have a toast to the "a--holes." I think it was a way for him to accept the label that fans and the media have kinda bestowed on him. He can toast to whatever he wants to, including being one for ruining Taylor's moment last year.
I think if he does, he should probably toast with a non-alcoholic beverage this time.
