One of my very favorite music festivals, ACL Fest, just announced it's 2013 line-up, and it's a doozy. Two-weekends, over 130 bands in the gorgeous setting of Zilker Park in Austin. I've only done ACL Fest twice, my first one was my senior year of high school, then I did all three days one year in college. After that first year where I believe I guzzled a gallon of water in the my first 30 minutes at the festival, it's really nice seeing that it's in October so it won't be brutally hot. On my second ACL venture, I made use of my ability to come and go from the festival with my three-day pass, I would go across the park to Barton Springs Pool and go for a swim to rinse off the dust and cool off.
Some big changes to this year's festival, not only will it be two weekends, October 4-6 & 11-13, but this year there are no one-day tickets. Only way in is with a three-day pass, and they start at $225. Check out the full line-up below, but my quick picks are, of course, Eric Church, as well as The Mavericks, Court Yard Hounds, Shovels & Rope, Asleep at the Wheel, The Band Of Heathens, Holly Williams, Shinyribs, Sons Of Fathers, and Delta Rae. You make look at the line-up below and say "I've never heard of these bands?!" but I can guarantee by October a majority of them will be dubbed the next big thing. So, if you do go, don't be afraid to check out the unknown band, that way you can say you saw them first.
